When I was a girl growing up in upstate New York, we would play outside in the fields and hillsides of our neighborhood until way past dark. One of our favorite past times was to wait for the fireflies to come out. We'd see one or two, then slowly more and more of the tiny little sparks of starlight would begin to gently glow, on and off, on and off, under the pine trees of the hot and humid August night.

Decades later my grown daughter called me late at night from a concert she was attending in Nashville, TN. I answered the phone and she said: "Mom!! OMG! Have you ever seen FIREFLIES?!! THEY'RE AMAZING!!!"

I hadn't thought about those summer nights for many years, and suddenly I was back there under the trees, following the glowing beacons of the fireflies. I wrote this song not long after my daughter's phone call.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I loved writing and recording it, and creating this video.

The vast majority of the firefly footage is from Radim Schreiber, who has been filming the beautiful and endangered fireflies for many years. Check out his wonderful website here: https://fireflyexperience.org.
