With my ‘feet in the sand, head in the clouds’ I would sit on the wild and beautiful Sonoma Coast beaches every weekend, by myself, for years. Hundreds of times I felt my body was a hollow tube, like a flute, ‘for the sea breeze to blow through’ and clear my mind and heal my heart. The song is called “The Instrument You Are.”

I played this melody over and over, hundreds of times…I was entranced by it! I would play it again and wonder: Where did this come from? Is there a story in this melody? What is it about? Each night before sleep I would ask for the lyrics to come to me in my dreams. And sure enough, one night I had this dream…

One of our favorite past times was to wait for the fireflies to come out. We'd see one or two, then slowly more and more of the tiny little sparks of starlight would begin to gently glow, on and off, on and off, under the pine trees of the hot and humid August night.
