Chris Connor recorded this song on her “This is Chris” LP, which I have on vinyl. I love her voice, it’s so rich and natural. It’s true singing, simple and clean. When I listen to other singers of her era like Julie London, Anita O’Day, Nat King Cole, Nancy Wilson and others, I so appreciate their deep-in-the-soul talent that just naturally shines through.
I thought that it might be fun to do a swingy version of this tune with a thought of Patsy Cline in my mind as I sang it to give it a bit of a lilting feel. The song may have been intended as a bit sad and lonely, but I really had a tongue-in-cheek feeling about the lyrics.
